What are our visitors saying?
"Smudge is great! We bought a membership and my children have already been twice in 24 hours. My oldest was thrilled when his painting was featured in the window today!!! This is a wonderful place to allow moms to enjoy art and creative play without the stress of the possible mess at home!" -Emily
"My almost 4 year old LOVED our time at Smudge!! Such a great place for kids with so many different ways for them to be creative and explore different things! We will definitely be going back!" - Kelsey
"Took my grandsons today and had a wonderful time. They had so much fun and we will definitely go back. So glad Paducah has a place like this to go." - Penny G.
"This place is fantastic. Having a place in our area where kids can go and use their imaginations and do things other than play games that give tickets is HUGE!" -Taylor H.
"My kids had the best time getting messy at Smudge! I was so thankful for the time they put into thinking through fun things for the kids to do while providing an environment to let their imaginations go wild! " -Dana H.
This is a great place for kids to tap into their creative side. I took my 3 year old grandson, Grayson, to make slime at the Summer Slime Bar event and he said it was, “Super cool!”. He had the “Best time ever!”. The staff was fun, friendly, and helpful! We can’t wait to come back for another event. -Tina
Meet the Owners
Becky Clark is a retired elementary school teacher with over 25 years teaching experience. She continues to hold certification for grades 1-8 with an endorsement for Gifted education. Becky also earned the National Board of Certification in the area of Science. The national certificate is a voluntary advanced teaching credential that goes above state licensure.
One of Becky’s favorite hobbies is spending time with her grandchildren; Skylar, Livi, and Eli. Creating art with them has always been a favorite activity! Another hobby that Becky enjoys is photography. She has created and sold many pieces of abstract photography art as well as taken photos for friends and family.
~A note from Becky~
Creative thinking, problem solving, and critical decision making have always been the driving forces for my teaching, even when curriculum guides and testing were on top of the to-do list!
Creative, open ended Art opportunities lend themselves easily to those same driving forces. Children have such structured, managed, and scheduled lives in today's world, it’s no wonder we see stressed out seven-year old’s. At SMUDGE, we want kids to be “mess-creating”, "choice-taking”,”risk-making” problem solvers as they create their own
self-guided Art pieces. SMUDGE is the place where the freedom to be creative is a must!
Come visit us at SMUDGE and tap into your creativity!
Sarah has recently returned to Paducah, and is happy to be home. After graduating and working for Murray State University she married and she and her husband moved around quite a bit! She jumped from KY to TN, from TN to TX, from TX back to TN, and from TN to MS, all in 5 short years!
Sarah has worked as a television host for Roundabout You, The Pet Show, Talk of the Valley; as well as working in a few acting jobs along the way……. But her most recent and best gig of all has been to become mom to Eli.
Upon returning to Paducah, Sarah found herself looking for ways to entertain her 1, soon to be 2 year old. Having lived in larger cities and seeing the opportunities offered for children, Sarah knew it was time for something special to come to Paducah! She was ready to give kiddos like Eli, a place to play and jump head first into creativity without being connected to tablets or televisions!
~ A Note from Sarah~
The amount of screen time kids are exposed to is extremely high these days. Free thinking and originality are rarely found on electronic devices; but when children are allowed to play freely, they play hard! Using their imagination and creativity, they enter into their own world, and watching that happen is exciting! Even if they aren’t creating something recognizable to us, they are experiencing exploration and discovery and a multitude of notions. The process of discovery through open-ended art can be more important than the end-product that the child produces. However, you can find some pretty awesome end-products as a result of art play! Come visit us at SMUDGE and let your child's creativity run wild.
